Setting up my first AWS account

My goal is to be able to connect a public instance of Python or R so that I connect with the I set up my first AWS account. I was able to launch a t2.micro instance and with the help of ChatGPT learned that an EC2 instance is basically like a little virtual machine. Apparently, you can host your own website on an EC2 instance but it seems really complicated. I think I will stick to hosting my website on Hostinger that does all the heavy lifting for me and I focus on building the website. I can use an API to connect my website to Amazon EC2. EMR is a managed solution with Apache Spark to scale EC2 instances. Essentially it’s a managed cluster of EC2 instances (think of EC2 instances as the lowest common denominator).

Also when you start and stop an EC2 instance it will change the IP address. You need to set up an Elastic IP to make sure the IP address stays constant.

Terms I need to know are:

  • Amazon Redshift
  • IAM roles
  • EC2 instance
  • EMR

  • Amazon SageMaker: 250 hours per month of ml.t3.medium on Studio notebooks OR 250 hours per month of ml.t2.medium or ml.t3.medium on on-demand notebook instances for two months. 25 hours per month on ml.m5.4xlarge on SageMaker Data Wrangler for two months. 10 million write units, 10 million read units, and 25 GB storage per month for two months on SageMaker Feature Store. 50 hours per month of m4.xlarge or m5.xlarge instances on Training for two months. 125 hours of m4.xlarge or m5.xlarge instance per month on Inference for two months.
  • Amazon Redshift: 750 hours per month for free (this amounts to enough hours to continuously run one DC2). Large node with 160GB of compressed SSD storage. You can also build clusters with multiple nodes to test larger datasets, which will consume your free hours more quickly. Once your two-month free trial expires or your usage exceeds 750 hours per month, you can shut down your cluster to avoid any charges, or keep it running at the standard On-Demand Rate.
